Have you ever wanted something that would find music on a web page and just show you the damn links with a big shiny DOWNLOAD button beside each track?
Yep, me too….
Guess what! Its Here!
Enter Songbird.
This little piece of software will allow you to browse your favorite blogs [maybe find some on Hype Machine or Skreemr? hint.. hint] and download any file that is linked on the page.
In essence, if there is a link that goes to an .mp3 file [or any media for that matter] it will show up in the “Media Browser” in an Itunes like display at the bottom of Songbird.
Another amazing aspect to this piece of software is that the downloads are blazingly fast, as they come from independent servers for the most part. Your downloads will be especially fast if you find the self hosted wordpress blogs…
Songbird is in its Alpha release, so its not totally bug free.. BUT its so worth getting right now that you should do it at all costs.
The browser in Songbird uses Mozilla Firefox [Gecko rendering engine] and once you get used to the menu and browser bars you will be poppin new tabs as fast as you can in FireFox.
But wait.. It even has an Itunes Import function and Ipod support! This could be the most integrated and dynamic challenge that Apple and the Major record labels have ever seen…
They even created an amazing API for developers and designers, so if you want to create your own branded skin [they call them "feathers"] then you can hop to it with all the required documentation.
Enough is enough.. go and get Songbird RIGHT NOW, here’s the link homies!! And to the developers.. Your going to be rich great work!!
PEACE!
Frost
